For anyone who has followed me on social media for a while, you probably already know that playlists are my thing. No really, I spend at least four hours a week organising my playlists and I honestly wish I was exaggerating.
After switching from Spotify to iTunes simply because my iPod is so old and struggles to open external applications, I gave my music library a makeover.
Prior to two days ago, I always found myself creating a minimal amount of playlists and therefore never listening to the songs that hadn't yet found their place. Now? Well, uh, now I have sixteen playlists to fuel whatever mood I may find myself in. Is sixteen too many? Whoops.
I would like to add that in addition to the ones I'm about to talk about below, I also have a daily shower playlist. Its content changes depending on if I want to cry, dance or belt out a power ballad but unfortunately for the rest of my household and my productivity, this method means that I need at least twenty minutes of playlist prep before I actually enter the bathroom.
Useful tip: save the explicit songs for when your family is out of the house.
One last thing before we get to the main content: I have a Grey's Anatomy playlist that you can follow! I have a personal one which consists solely of my favourites and I have the Spotify version which features every single song from the show that is available for streaming (although I think I'm a couple of seasons behind at the moment). You're welcome.
PLAYLISTS
It's easy to find covers on YouTube but I'll be honest, I'm selective. I won't download a cover just because someone has a good voice. Sure, maybe I'll keep it in my watch later for a while but I have to truly love it to give it a home in my music library.
Most of my favourite covers have actually been featured on Grey's Anatomy and that's how I found them, but pay attention to the music on your favourite shows and you're bound to find one you love. Supergirl featured Lissie's cover of 'Go Your Own Way' by Fleetwood Mac which you need to listen to if you haven't already!

THE OPEN ROAD
COWBOYS AND WHISKEY
LOVE LOVE LOVE
A road trip playlist is utterly essential. It doesn't even matter if you don't travel far, as long as you have a long road or are surrounded by open space. I'm lucky enough to live in a seaside town and if I travel more than ten minutes outside of town, I'm lost in a maze of long winding roads and fields so I insist on taking control of the music selection ninety percent of the time.
My own road trip playlist is reasonably family-friendly and I like songs that are modern but nostalgic. It's a bonus if you can find a song about the open road itself or going on some kind of journey! Try 'Boys of Summer' by Don Henley.
COWBOYS AND WHISKEY
I know country music is cliché and full of stereotypes and nobody would dare admit that they listen to it, but I'm one of the few who will happily hold up my hand and say that I do. I'm not talking about the songs that are derogatory towards women (ew), but if you give country music a chance I guarantee you will find a song that you genuinely love.
Yes, the title of my playlist is also very cliché but giving it a standard title of "country music" is boring. It features mostly modern artists with a few classics and is a great way to separate the genre from the rest of your music if you're embarrassed by your tastes (but please try to embrace it!).
LOVE LOVE LOVE
I have three playlists dedicated to love songs. Seems excessive, right? Just put them all in one! Hear me out, there is a method in my madness. If I placed every single love song I have in this one playlist, it would contain pretty much my entire iTunes library because let's face it; the majority of songs contain lyrics about love.
My first and most-listened to playlist of the three is titled 'Love, Love, Love' and that's because it consists of pretty generic ones and is forever growing.
There is a healthy mix of pace and genres (although I do like to keep all country music in a totally separate playlist) and it's supposed to be a generally positive playlist. I try to avoid power ballads in this one, but I throw in all the cliché pop songs. Oh and take a second to appreciate Josh Duhamel's beauty before you move on to the next playlist (or Julianne Hough's, whoever floats your boat!).

If you don't have a playlist full of emotional love songs that you can cry to in the shower, you're living life wrong. I'm not saying it's good to be miserable but a lot of my favourite heartbreak-orientated songs have been on Grey's Anatomy (what a surprise!) so you can imagine how emotional it gets at times.
Again, there is a huge range of genres on my Heartbreak playlist but they're all negative and definitely not recommended if you're trying to maintain a positive outlook on life. Side note: do you like the super cliché photo of rain that I used to symbolise heartbreak? I know, I'm ashamed of myself too.

NICHOLAS SPARKS KINDA LOVE
You know how a lot of girls have wedding boards on Pinterest? I went a step further and created a playlist. As the title suggests, this playlist features songs that make you think of novel-worthy relationships.
This one contains classics from a number of eras, but less modern love songs aside from a couple of Ariana Grande songs. This type of playlist is great if you don't like to combine pre-2000s songs with newer music!

That's it for part one of my playlist theme ideas and tips! I will be splitting this series into three parts, with the rest being posted once per week. This is also my first post on this blog so...hello, this is a place for me to share tips, tutorials, places, music, books & shows with you (if you want beauty-related posts though, I'm not your gal.)
